Jul 6, 2023 · Mathews County Public SchoolsMATHEWS COUNTY SCHOOL BOARD ANNOUNCES DAVID S. DANIEL, ED.D. AS DIVISION SUPERINTENDENT BEGINNING JULY 1, 2023Mathews, Va.—David S. Daniel, Ed.D. was announced as the next Division Superintendent for Mathews County Public Schools at the Tuesday, May 16, 2023 regular monthly meeting of the Mathews County School Board. His contract will begin July 1, 2023. Dr. Daniel will succeed Division Superintendent Mrs. Nancy B. Welch, who was appointed to her current role in 2015 and is retiring after a 28 year career in Mathews County Public Schools
Dr. Daniel’s broad administrative experience spans elementary, middle, high school, and division levels. He currently serves as Principal of West Point Middle/High School in West Point, Va. Dr. Daniel previously served as Director of Innovation and Technology Integration for West Point Public Schools from 2016-2021 and Principal of West Point Middle School from 2011-2016. He has also served as a principal, assistant principal, teacher, and coach for Gloucester County Public Schools during his 27 year career in education.
Dr. Daniel received his Doctor of Education degree in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in 2015. He also holds an Education Specialist degree in Educational Leadership and Administration from The George Washington University, a Master of Arts in Education degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, and a Bachelor of Arts degree in History from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University.
During his tenure at West Point Public Schools, Dr. Daniel has worked to increase opportunities for students by developing partnerships with business and industry, institutions of higher education, and neighboring school divisions. He has also obtained grant funding to support expanded access to technology, improved curricula, and upgraded safety and security equipment.
A meet and greet reception for Dr. Daniel will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. in the Mathews High School Cafeteria prior to the June 20, 2023 regular monthly School Board Meeting at 6:00 p.m. in the Mathews High School Media Center.
